Demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG), an alternative energy source, is driving the development of projects that convert coal seam gas to a liquefied form for shipment to major international markets. Through our work with several major LNG proponents in Queensland, JTA is helping proponents to demystify the technical process, clarify the scale and scope of proposed projects, and engage effectively with impacted communities in the Gladstone region and surrounds.

JTA was contracted to prepare and implement an engagement and consultation plan for Shell Australia's proposed LNG project. The project included a proposed facility on Curtis Island, located off the consultation-fatigued city of Gladstone, and associated infrastructure.
JTA has implemented a structured program of activity for inclusion in the project's environmental impact statement. Due to the Shell/PetroChina buyout of Arrow Energy in August 2010, this project has become an Arrow Energy project contractually for JTA, a seamless transition as JTA had already been working for Arrow Energy for several years.
JTA managed community engagement, consultation and communication services for the environmental impact statement process for the downstream, upstream and pipeline construction aspects of the Santos/Petronas project. The project footprint stretched from Curtis Island near Gladstone, west to Rolleston and south to Roma.
Significant environmental and community issues surrounded GLNG, which involves extracting coal seam gas from the Surat Basin, and constructing a 435km pipeline through communities to a new plant at Curtis Island off Gladstone. JTA engaged stakeholders through a structured program of activity, and documentation of all issues (from sustainable land use to ecological impacts and facility emissions) for mitigation by Santos.
